LaserTamil™ in Unicode™ for Windows® or Macintosh® provides professional-quality Unicode-encoded fonts in TrueType® OpenType® format, in plain, bold, italic, and bold-italic, for typing Tamil, plus English and other western European Latin languages. The TamilLSU™ and TamilSansU™ fonts include the complete Tamil section of the Unicode Standard, providing fonts that are fully compatible with other Unicode-encoded Tamil fonts. LaserTamil in Unicode includes a phonetic keyboard layout that provides four characters per key (instead of the normal two) for easy input of Tamil. The keyboard layout places the Tamil consonants, wherever possible, according to the sound of the English keys, and takes advantage of the OpenType layout features built into the fonts for logical, intuitive input. Consonant/vowel ligatures form automatically, and vowels position automatically as you type. For example:
LaserTamil in Unicode is available in two typefaces. The TamilLSU font is a serif font and the TamilSansU font is a sans serif font. The typefaces can be purchased individually or together as LaserTamil Professional in Unicode.

LaserTamil in Unicode for Windows
LaserTamil™ in Unicode™ for Windows® includes two keyboard layouts (one for Tamil and one for Latin languages) that provide four characters per key (instead of the normal two) for easy, intuitive input of all supported languages using Microsoft Word 2013, 2010, 2007 or OpenOffice.org 3.2 or newer, in Windows 10, 8, 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. The Tamil keyboard layout takes advantage of the OpenType layout features built into the fonts for logical, intuitive input.
Windows System Requirements:
Operating Systems
Requires Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, or XP.
Applications
Requires Microsoft Word 2013, 2010, or 2007 (or another component of Office) or OpenOffice.org 3.2 or newer (available for free download from OpenOffice.org).
No earlier version of Word is fully compatible. Word 2003 has been tested and supports all features built into the font except the Tamil letter SHA consonant-vowel ligatures. The User's Manual includes several work-arounds allowing Word 2003 to be used, but with some inconvenience.
OpenOffice.org 3.1 and earlier is not compatible. You must upgrade to version 3.2 or newer, available for free download.
It is not known if InDesign CS4 supports the OpenType features of the font. (InDesign CS4 supports LaserHebrewU, LaserGujaratiU, and LaserHindi SanskritU if World Tools or ScribeDOOR is installed and used during editing.) If you are successful using LaserTamilU with this application please let us know!
QuarkXPress 8.02 does not support LaserTamil in Unicode.
We expect LibreOffice to support LaserTamilU (because OpenOffice supports it), but LibreOffice has not been tested.
