LaserIPA® Converter

Are You Ready To Move To Unicode-Encoded IPA Fonts?

for Windows

for Macintosh

Now You Can Easily Convert Your ASCII-Encoded LaserIPA Files To Our Unicode-Encoded LaserIPA In Unicode Fonts With The LaserIPA Converter.

LaserIPA Converter will allow you to convert text typed with Linguist's Software LaserIPA (ASCII-encoded) fonts to the new Unicode-encoded font in LaserIPA in Unicode. The converter is a series of macros embedded in a Microsoft Word file. You simply copy the appropriate macro(s) into each of your Word files that contain LaserIPA text and run the macro(s) to convert the text to the Unicode-encoded values of the LaserIPA in Unicode font. The macros do not affect any other text in your files except the LaserIPA text, allowing you to retain your file's original formatting. The LaserIPA Converter makes a daunting task simple.

Complete instructions are included in the LaserIPA Converter User's Manual.

LaserIPA Converter for Windows

LaserIPA Converter for Windows

LaserIPA Converter for Windows includes macros to convert LaserIPA (ASCII-encoded) text to the LaserIPA in Unicode (Unicode-encoded) font. For example, you can convert all the IPAKiel and IPAKielSeven text in a Word document to IPA LS Uni with a single click.

Windows System Requirements:

  • bulletOperating System
    1. bulletThe LaserIPA Converter requires Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP or 2000 SP3.
  • bulletApplications
    1. bulletRequires Microsoft Word 2013, 2010, 2007, or 2003. The files you are going to convert must be Word for Windows files, since the macros are Word macros embedded in a Word file.
  • bulletFonts
    1. bulletRequires one or more of the LaserIPA (ASCII-encoded) fonts from Linguist's Software and the corresponding Unicode-encoded IPA LS Uni font from the LaserIPA in Unicode for Windows product. Note you must install both the ASCII-encoded (LaserIPA) font(s) that you used to type your file(s) and the Unicode-encoded (IPA LS Uni) font to which you are converting the files.
    2. bulletThe LaserIPA ASCII-encoded fonts used in your documents must be version 6.0 (dated June 6, 1997) or newer to be successfully converted. If your fonts are older than version 6.0 you must first update LaserIPA and convert your documents to the new version of the ASCII-encoded fonts following instructions in the Troubleshooting Manual. Then the LaserIPA Converter can be used to convert your documents to the Unicode-encoded version of LaserIPA.
    3. bulletHow do I find the version number?
  • Documentation
    1. bulletAll documentation is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, so Adobe Reader must be installed on your computer. If you do not already have it installed, you can download Adobe Reader free from the Adobe web site.

LaserIPA Converter for Macintosh

LaserIPA Converter for Macintosh includes macros to convert LaserIPA (ASCII-encoded) text to LaserIPA in Unicode (Unicode-encoded) fonts. For example, you can convert all the IPAKiel and IPAKielSeven text in a Word document to IPA LS Uni with a single click.

Macintosh System Requirements:

  • bulletApplications
    1. bulletRequires Microsoft Word 2004 or 2011 to convert files to the LaserIPA in Unicode font (called IPA LS Uni). The files you are going to convert must be Word for Macintosh files, since the macros are Word macros embedded in a Word file.
    2. bulletWord 2008 does not support Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros and therefore will not work. You must have Word 2004 or 2011. (Microsoft left VBA out of Word 2008.)
    3. bulletWord is Unicode-compliant, but does not support the OpenType features of the IPA LS Uni font. Converted Word documents containing only single, non-accented IPA LS Uni letters can remain in Word format. If your file includes overstriking diacritics from the IPA LS Uni font you must import the converted file into the Mellel word processor to correctly display and print the text.
  • bulletFonts
    1. bulletYou must install both the LaserIPA (ASCII-encoded) fonts used in your files and the Unicode-encoded (LaserIPA in Unicode) font to which you are converting the files.
  • Documentation
    1. bulletAll documentation is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, so Adobe Reader must be installed on your computer. If you do not already have it installed, you can download Adobe Reader free from the Adobe web site.
