What others are saying What others are saying

We are pleased to make available the text of the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, authorized by the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft. The text is available for Windows or Macintosh, in 12 formats (ten in Hebrew and two Transliterated).

Hebrew: The ten formats of the Hebrew texts are formatted with the beautiful NewJerusalemU Unicode-encoded Hebrew font, one of nine fonts available in the LaserHebrew in Unicode product family. Eight of these unique fonts include all vowels, accents and cantillation marks, and other diacritical marks used in the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS), and are the only fonts available today which reproduce all of the forms, properly positioned, that occur in the BHS/Leningrad Codex. The NewJerusalemU font and these texts are being used to produce the new Oxford Hebrew Bible (page 13 of the OHB Guide for Editors identifies the Greek and Hebrew fonts and texts from Linguist's Software being used). The Hebrew texts described below are formatted with the NewJerusalemU font, but users may reformat the texts with any of the fonts in LaserHebrew in Unicode (except for ScriptHebrewU, which is consonantal only).

Any portion of the Hebrew Scriptures can be copied and pasted into other documents, e.g.:

Example of the BHS formatted with the NewJerusalemU font.

See below for a description of all ten Hebrew formats.

Transliterated: The Hebrew Scriptures are also available transliterated, SBL-style, vocalized, using our new Unicode-encoded transliteration font, TranslitLSU. This Times®-style font, part of the Semitic Transliterator in Unicode product, includes all the characters and diacritics necessary to transliterate the Hebrew Scriptures, the Greek Old and New Testaments, and other Semitic languages.

Genesis 1:1 transliterated using the TranslitLSU font

Adding transliterated portions of the BHS to your documents is now as simple as a copy and paste operation. The transliterated texts can be purchased in two formats, described below.

Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode for Windows

Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode for Windows

The Hebrew Scriptures text is provided in Word for Windows files (compatible with Word 2013, 2010, 2007, 2003 and 2002). The texts are available in the twelve formats described above (ten in Hebrew and two transliterated).

Windows System Requirements:

  • bulletFonts
    1. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode requires one of the fonts in LaserHebrew in Unicode for Windows version 11.0 or newer (sold separately).
    2. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode Transliterated requires one of the fonts in Semitic Transliterator in Unicode for Windows (sold separately).
  • bulletOperating System
    1. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode requires Windows 10, 8, 7, or Vista.
    2. bulletAn older version is available for Windows XP and 2000 SP3, but you must contact the office or specify the Windows XP version on the order form in the Special Instructions dialog box. NB: In Windows XP and 2000 SP3 you must install Hebrew supplemental language support. (Instructions for installing this Microsoft-supplied component into Windows XP and 2000 are provided with LaserHebrew in Unicode for Windows. You must have your original Windows XP or 2000 CD, OEM-provided Recovery CD, or pre-loaded CAB files to install supplemental language support.)
    3. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode Transliterated requires Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, or 2000 SP3.
  • bulletApplications
    1. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode requires Word, InDesign CS4 (with World Tools or ScribeDOOR installed), OpenOffice.org 3, or another Unicode-compatible application that handles Hebrew vowels and accents similarly to Word. At the time this product was released we were not aware of any other applications that support the features in these fonts. Because OpenOffice is compatible we expect LibreOffice to be compatible, but it has not been tested. QuarkXPress 8.02 has been tested, and is not compatible.
    2. bulletThe Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode Transliterated requires Word 97 or newer, or any Unicode-compatible application that can read a Word file.
    3. bulletWordPerfect (tested through v12), QuarkXPress v6.5 and earlier, FrameMaker, and PageMaker do not support the Hebrew Scriptures (Hebrew or Transliterated) in Unicode, since these applications are not Unicode-compatible.
  • bulletNotes
    1. bulletFiles created with these texts are compatible with the Macintosh version of the texts. No conversion of files is necessary when transferring files to the Macintosh if your applications are fully Unicode-aware and LaserHebrew in Unicode and/or Semitic Transliterator in Unicode is installed on both systems.
    2. bulletThese are Bible text files only (Word files), and not a concordance program. The files are designed to work in your Unicode-aware applications and allow you to copy and paste, and print, portions of the Hebrew Scriptures and to search or manipulate them in any way supported by these applications. But there is no search or concording feature built into the product. This product is valuable to Biblical scholars because it provides the Hebrew Scriptures formatted for use with our Unicode-encoded fonts (Hebrew fonts and transliteration fonts), and because the files will work in any Unicode-aware, OpenType-enabled application. (In the case of the Hebrew, the application must also support Hebrew vowels and accents.) Thus users are not limited to using the full text in a single Bible-search program.

Cost: US$ 59.95 for any one format; $20 for each additional format purchased at the same time. Or purchase all 12 formats together (Hebrew Scriptures Professional in Unicode) for only $99.95. Order

(Before you order be sure you have read the System Requirements.)

Testimonials

Here's what others are saying about the Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode Here's what others are saying about the Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode:

"Thank you very much for your superb Hebrew text files."
Masaru Nagashima, Richmond, B.C., Canada

"Thank you very much for your splendid array of products for Hebrew Bible and transliteration."
Prof. Walter Houston, Mansfield College, Oxford University

"Thank you for the amazing work you do. This program is very good. I really like your Hebrew keyboard. Thank you for the incredible contribution you have made to the Lord's work."
Stephen Miller, Southhaven, Mississippi

"Your fonts are beautiful. I think what Linguist's Software has done is beyond superlatives. This is your merit. You can quote me on this. I really mean it 1000%. What you have done is historical, and you should be proud of it. After 120 years, you could point your finger at that among other things."
Rabbi Israel Seldowitz, President, GoHebrew and TalmudWorld

"In 2005 I purchased the Hebrew Scriptures in Unicode with BHS line breaks and Fully Justified as well as the LaserHebrew in Unicode fonts from you. I must say that I am very impressed. You have saved me hours of time every week in typing the Scriptures for exegesis and what joy I had lost is back again. I am so thankful to God for Linguist's Software, Dr. Payne and his staff. You even made it possible for me to read my UBS in the font I grew up with! Foolish of me, I suppose, but there is some comfort in that and it speeds up my recognition of things. In the Mellel processor I can easily alternate between English, Latin, Greek, Hebrew and German. Now my study materials and papers look like I had hoped they would. And I see that, if I should like a font that works well with whatever English fonts I have, that you are making those available too. Just excellent! You restore font-work to the eye-aiding practical art it should be. Thank you again. Gott bei Ihnen!"
Rev. Bradley E. Ragner, BA, MDiv., Pastor Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church Shiocton, Wisconsin, USA

"I received the Hebrew software (fonts and BHS texts) yesterday and everything works very well. The ability to switch seamlessly between the two languages is wonderful!"
John Nathan Clayton

"Thank you very much. I received all the files and everything works very fine. I have great pleasure with your products, the Hebrew BIBLE-Text and LaserHebrew in Unicode. Again I want to thank you for all your service and help. May GOD bless you and your work and products, because they gave me new inspiration and joy in reading and writing HIS HOLY SCRIPTURES. SHALOM"
Christoph Metz, Cölbe, Germany

"Everything is working fine."
Professor Nathan Jastram, Concordia University Wisconsin
