About Linguist's Software, Inc.
L
inguist’s Software, a font foundry since 1984, produces and licenses professional-quality, scalable fonts for over 2600 languages for the Windows and Macintosh platforms. The company was founded in 1984 by Philip B. Payne, Ph.D. from Cambridge University in New Testament Greek, which he taught there, at various seminaries, and as a missionary in Japan. Phil needed Greek, Hebrew and Japanese fonts when none were available, so he bought one of the original 128K Macs and hired one of the original Mac programmers to teach him how to create fonts before there were any commercial font tools. MacWorld Magazine heard about it and published four columns of Greek, Hebrew, and Japanese text in the November 1984 MacWorld Magazine, pages 90-91, and Linguist’s Software was born. By 1992 Phil, with help from experts in many languages, had created fonts for 242 languages from Akkadian to Zulu in his basement. Forbes Magazine in its November 23, 1992 issue published an article about Linguist's Software on pages 162-164.
Linguist's Software produces the finest Greek, Hebrew and transliteration fonts used in Biblical studies today.
